The New Year has arrived and with it comes new resolutions and renewals of past commitments. Our fall season was quite robust as we worked through the implementation of the new government accounting standards for reporting other post-employment benefits (OPEB). We started out small with our Delaware charter schools, each of which only participate in the Delaware State OPEB plan. Once we moved into our Pennsylvania school clients the difficulty level increased substantially with the need to incorporate all required disclosures for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania multiple employer plan and for each individual plan at each school district. For many of our clients, this meant reporting on 3 or more OPEB plans. We are appreciative of the tremendous effort put forth by our clients, their actuaries, and our professional and administrative staff to get all accomplished within required deadlines. We will be continuing the implementation for our government December year-end clients.
Our fall nonprofit conference was a tremendous success with over eighty people in attendance. A special thanks to our friends at WSFS and T. H. Easter Consulting for adding richly to the dialogue of the day.
For the next few months we will be on the lookout for good weather and minimal loss of time due to snow days as we plan and conduct our winter audits.
One of our initiatives this past year was the migration to the cloud. Through careful planning and testing we have successfully moved two-thirds of our software programs to the cloud. Our last piece is in line to migrate by summer 2019.
We are pleased to announce our new Firm Administrator, Doris Kerr. Doris joined the firm in October following an extensive Executive search which started with over 100 applicants! She has already been instrumental in so many areas of our practice including assistance in planning our conference, moving systems to the cloud, working with our professional staff to migrate to a new interactive CPE tracking tool, developing strong communication with Partners to ensure deadlines are managed, and managing administrative staff to assist in timely completion of engagements (just to name a few of her accomplishments to date!) We are excited at the prospects ahead with Doris on our team.
Timothy Sawyer, CPA CGMA moved from Partner-In-Training to Partner effective January 1. Tim has been an integral part of our team since joining the firm in 2009. He is especially well known for his ability to train and develop new talent and he continues to be a significant resource to both staff and clients. We have every reason to believe that Tim, his wife and their two children will be an integral part of our family for many years to come.
Look for an exciting announcement regarding the firm in the near future as we put the finishing touches on a project that we have been working on for over a year.
